What to do when somebody is injured
First person on the scene:
Is this life threatening? Call 911
Is it not life threatening? Call your manager
It can be uncomfortable to help a coworker in need. Do whatever first aid you can to make the situation better.
Are you not comfortable administering first aid? Talk to your manager about next steps or ask someone else if they are comfortable with helping.
Managers take the following action:
Does the person need medical attention? (see life-threatening above)
If they do, and it is not life threatening, try to arrange safe and effective transportation.
If someone needs help talking through potential first aid practices, please try to help.
If you need medical attention, seek it immediately.
Please note, if you plan to file a Workman's compensation claim, medical attention and documentation will be required.
As managers, you may have paperwork to fill out as part of the forms, such as response to incident reports.
If you are injured at work, you will have some paperwork to do:
Oregon Employees: After receiving medical attention, Oregon employees complete form 801 from SAIF.
Washington Employees: After receiving medical attention, complete one of the following to file a claim:
Online via our FileFast tool
By phone: 1-877-561-FILE (3453)
At your doctor’s office (if you complete the Report of Accident at your doctor's office, the doctor files the form for you)
Once the person has made a claim, Spade and Archer will evaluate the return to work timeline, and look to next steps.
